Inadequate staff motivation is one of the major areas that lacks significant concern from numerous stakeholders of Nigerian higher education sector leading to frequent brain-drain amongst academic staff of Nigerian Universities. This study examined the effects of conference attendance sponsored by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) on staff motivation among staff members of Gombe State University, Gombe, Nigeria. Primarily, this study used beneficiaries of tetfund conference sponsorship. Specifically, the study used 150 academic and non-academic staff of Gombe State University to obtain relevant data for the study. AMOS Structural Equation Modelling was used to analyze the collected data. The findings show that there is a significant relationship between academic conferences and academic staff motivation at (p-0.003). While the direct relationship between conference attendance and staff motivation among non-academic staff was insignificant at (p-0.586) Thus, the findings indicated that tetfund sponsored conferences only motivate academic staff and does not motivate non-academic staff of Gombe State University. It is, therefore, recommended that the management of the university should ensure increased support to academic staff in securing Tetfund conference sponsorship. At the same time, university management should encourage the non-academic staff to recognize and exploit advantages associated with relevant conferences, workshops and seminars in their respective professions.
