Abstract

The rise in cyber threat has overwhelmed the monetary resources and human ability to analyze and combat every new form of such threats in the Critical industries e.g. financial sector. As digital presence is increasing, there is a large amount of personal and financial information that should be protected from cyber threat. Cyber threat can ruin the reputation of an organization or letdown the organization completely. This paper reviews AI applications on cyber threat intelligence publications. It compared the different AI techniques employed and the types of attack. The study adopted the bibliometric and systematic literature review method, and data (160KB) were sourced from Scopus, researchgates, googlescholar and academia between 2007 to 2023. The review revealed that application of AI in controlling cyber threat has advantages and disadvantages; however, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. It was observed that with the speedy and efficient technology required to operate AI systems, they are likely to improve the protection of customers and businesses in the cyberspace. This is proven by the increasing deployment of AI engines rather than conventional scanning engines in cyber security. However, the AI techniques used are limited to machine learning and deep learning, whereas deep reinforcement learning is yet to be effectively explored.
