IMPACT OF INTERNET USE ON BIOLOGY STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN ZARIA, KADUNA STATE

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of Internet use on Biology students’ Academic Performance in Zaria, Kaduna State. To execute this research, three research questions and three research hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. In this study, a descriptive survey design was used with three hundred and fifty-one (351) respondents from the population based on Krejcie and Morgan (1970) table of sample size as sample size for the study. An instrument called “Impact of Internet Use on Biology Students’ Academic Performance (IIUBSAP)”, with reliability coefficient of 0.82 was used in data collection for the study. The analytical tools used was t-test at 0.05 level of significance via the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 22). The end results revealed that students at senior secondary schools in Zaria, Kaduna State has significant reasons on the use of internet, the academic performance of Biology students in senior secondary schools in Zaria, Kaduna State, is affected by Internet-based technologies, and that there are no significant differences in excess internet usage among Biology students in senior secondary schools in Zaria, Kaduna State, based on gender. The researcher concludes by recommending that Biology students in Zaria, Kaduna State should only use the internet for educational purposes.
