Relationship Between Conference and Lecturers’ Performance in Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, Nigeria

Abstract

This paper investigated the relationship between conferences and lecturers’ performance in Shehu Shagari College of Education (SSCOE). The objective was to examine the relationship between the conference and the lectures’ performance in SSCOE, Sokoto. One research question and a corresponding research hypothesis guided this study. A correlation survey design was adopted. The population of the study was 1,105 academic staff, out of which 291 sample was selected using the Krejcie and Morgan table for determining sample size. A purposive sampling technique was used for the study. The researchers however used a self-developed instrument titled “Lecturers Performance Questionnaire” (LPQ). The instrument yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.79. The researchers used descriptive statistics of percentage and frequency to answer the research questions and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) to examine whether a relationship exists between conference and lecturers’ performance. The findings show a significant relationship between conference and lecture performance in SSCOE, Sokoto. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that Government and other relevant stakeholders should provide more financial support to lectures in Shehu Shagari College of Education to be able to attend both national and international conferences in other to enhance their productivity.
