Effect of Negotiation Skills on Marital Conflict Resolution among Secondary School Teachers in Sokoto Metropolis

Abstract
The study examined the effect of negotiation skills on marital conflict among secondary school teachers in Sokoto metropolis. It adopted a pre-test, post – test, control group quasi experimental design, involving one treatment groups and one control group. Two research questions were raised while two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study consists of 80 Secondary school teachers. The sample of the study comprised 20 subjects who were selected using purposive sampling technique from 10 secondary schools in Sokoto metropolis A-20 item researcher constructed questionnaires titled: Marital Conflict Adjustment Instrument (MCAI) was used to collect information from the subjects. The items were weighted on 5-poit scales of Always (1), Very often (2), Sometimes (3), Rarely (4) and Never (5). The subjects were assigned into two; treatment (NS & SST) and Control groups. The instrument was administered with the assistance of two trained teachers. The data were analyzed using means and standard deviation to answer the research questions while ANCOVA was used to test the hypotheses. The results of the study revealed that negotiation skill were effective in resolving marital conflict among secondary school teachers. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that couples sho0uld be exposed to the use of negotiation skills in resolving their marital conflict which will enable them make significant impact in the school and in the society at large.
