The Politics and Implications of Students’ Abductions in Nigeria Under Peoples’ Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress
Main Article Content
Abstract
Since the return to democratic rule in 1999, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) are the political parties that ruled Nigeria at the federal and various states’ level. Under these political parties, insurgent groups evolved and carried out series of attacks on various institutions and socioeconomic activities. Boko Haram/ISWAP and bandits attacks led to the abductions of many persons, particularly students in at least five states in northern Nigeria. These, rise questions and suspicion between political parties, exposed some fallacies and administrative lapses on part of the ruling party, affected pupils/students enrolment in schools, caused closure of schools and psychological trauma to the learners, teachers and parents alike. The above has negative implications on the nation’s economy and its educational system. Government at all levels are urged to employ and deploy more security operatives to safeguard lives and properties, schools, parents are encouraged to send their wards to schools, government and international organizations should pragmatically be involved in developing and providing education to every citizen.
