Abstract

A child is the most important and the most delicate nucleus of every society as he is the only medium through which any rot, decay or mistake can be repaired. Put succinctly, he is the second chance of the every society. In the core African context, this idea is well understood and better engrained in the focus of the child’s upbringing. He is trained to be responsible to his immediate society, his parents and then himself. This obligation is captured by the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of Children. However with the colonial invasion of Africa by the West, the core moral fabric of the African society was dislodged and extricated, hence the birth of the postmodern child that is caught in the cultural crossroads of Western values and African ideals.
